The Benefits of Back To Wall (B2W) Toilets

There are so many options for sanitaryware, it can be hard to know where to begin. When choosing the toilet you prefer, it is important to consider whether additional work will be required. The devil is in details, whether you’re looking for a single bathroom at the back of a restaurant or a multi-site rollout.

What is a back-to-wall toilet?

The back-to-wall toilet is essentially a toilet where the user’s back rests against the wall. The toilet pan will be displayed when you enter the cubicle. However, the cistern which holds water for flushing will not be visible.

Why choose a wall-to-wall toilet?

This option is popular because it makes the cubicle appear larger. Sometimes, however, it is a precautionary measure to protect the cubicle from accidental or intentional damage. Users can damage or remove moving parts if the cistern is exposed, just like a traditional domestic toilet. Back to wall toilets look smart and stylish, while maintaining a clean design aesthetic in your wash area.

Keep these things in mind

Even though back-to-wall toilets don’t have a cistern, water is required to flush them. It is usually hidden behind a false wall, known as a “duct set”. This hides the pipework as well as the cistern. This is known as an integrated plumber system (IPS). You can remove the panels that conceal the cistern with a key or other special tool. This makes maintenance easy and protects your washroom from vandalism.

Hidden benefits

The cubicle’s surface area is reduced because back-to-wall toilets can be paired with an IPS system. The cubicle has four walls and a small toilet pan. This makes it easier to clean, and can be a significant asset when shared with large groups such as museums, schools, or universities. They are often easier to maintain than close-coupled toilets because they have fewer moving parts.
